PD Reserve Parachute Canopy
The Performance Designs Reserve is the proven emergency wing jumpers choose when reliability matters more than marketing noise.
PD describes it as their best-selling canopy of all time, trusted worldwide for responsive flight, predictable handling, excellent glide in brakes, and strong landings when the jump has already stopped going to plan.
For this page, stock comes first. If the correct size and colour are available, choose a real PD stock reserve above the configurator and avoid waiting for a custom build.

How to choose your PD Reserve
Start with the reserve size, not the colour or stock list. Your rigger needs to confirm the reserve tray, pack volume, total suspended weight, and the rules you jump under. If the correct size is available in stock, that is usually the cleanest route. If the size is wrong, fast delivery does not help.
The PD Reserve is the familiar, proven choice: a conventional 7-cell reserve with a long service record and broad rigger familiarity. PD highlights responsive, predictable handling, excellent glide in brakes, and strong landings - the things you want when the main canopy is no longer part of the plan.
Stock is best when the right size and specification are already available: you know the canopy, colour, line set, links, slider, and location before ordering. Choose custom when the correct size is not in stock or when you specifically want one of the available solid reserve colours.

If the right size is available, stock is usually the best answer: known canopy, known colour, faster route, and less waiting. Use the filters to narrow by region and reserve size.

Custom PD Reserve
Build a custom solid-colour PD Reserve
The PD Reserve colour choice is intentionally simple: one whole-canopy colour. Pick the reserve size, choose the solid colour, check the 3D preview, save the design, and add the custom reserve order to cart.
Reserve questions
PD Reserve FAQ
Answers to the questions jumpers usually ask before buying a PD Reserve: size, container fit, stock vs custom, PD Reserve vs Optimum, lead time, and what your rigger should check.
Why choose a PD Reserve?
Choose the PD Reserve if you want the proven, conventional Performance Designs reserve rather than the lowest-pack-volume option. PD describes it as their best-selling canopy of all time, with a long track record, responsive handling, predictable flight, excellent glide in brakes, and strong landings. In plain shop terms: it is the familiar PD reserve many riggers already know and trust.
What sizes does the PD Reserve come in?
The PD Reserve is available in 99, 106, 113, 126, 143, 160, 176, 193, 218, 235, 253, and 281 sq ft. The right size depends on your total suspended weight, experience, container reserve tray, pack volume, and local rules. Do not pick the size from the stock list alone - confirm it with the rigger who will pack and sign your reserve.
Should my reserve be the same size as my main canopy?
Not automatically. Many jumpers choose a reserve close to their main size, and some choose larger for a more conservative emergency wing. The important question is not whether the numbers match; it is whether the reserve is appropriate for your exit weight, container, experience, and likely landing conditions after a cutaway.
Will the PD Reserve fit my container?
Your rigger must confirm this before use. Reserve fit depends on the exact harness/container model and size, the reserve tray, pack volume, closing loop range, AAD setup, MARD/RSL setup, and how the canopy actually packs. If the fit is tight or outside the container manufacturer's guidance, choose a different size or consider a low-bulk reserve instead.
PD Reserve or PD Optimum - which one should I choose?
Choose the PD Reserve when you want the classic, conventional PD reserve with broad rigger familiarity and a proven history. Choose the PD Optimum when pack volume is the main problem or when your container needs a lower-bulk reserve solution. If both fit your rig correctly, the PD Reserve is the straightforward traditional choice; the Optimum is the space-saving option.
Is a stock PD Reserve a good idea?
Yes, if the correct size and specification are available. Stock is usually the fastest and simplest route because the canopy is ready to ship. Of course, if you'll be waiting for your container longer than your reserve, you might also order a custom reserve as it will have a later DOM. Also, do not compromise on size just to buy stock quickly - the right reserve is more important than the fastest reserve.
When should I custom order a PD Reserve?
Custom order when the correct size is not in stock, or when you are ordering a container at the same time and the container will take longer than the reserve anyway. In that case, a custom reserve can make sense because it should arrive with a later DOM instead of sitting around while you wait for the container. The size and rig compatibility still matter more than colour.
What colours can I choose for a custom PD Reserve?
This builder keeps PD Reserve colour simple: one solid whole-canopy colour. The available colours are White, Light Blue, Tangerine, and Yellow. Stock reserves may also show PD colour codes when PD includes them.
Can I design different colour panels on a PD Reserve?
No. PD Reserve orders normally use one solid canopy colour. Reserves are kept simple for several reasons, including making the reserve canopy easy to recognise after deployment.
How fast can an in-stock PD Reserve ship?
European stock reserves usually deliver in about 1-2 weeks. U.S. stock reserves usually take around 2-3 weeks depending on availability, shipping route, and customs. If you need a reserve quickly, start with the stock section and filter by size.
How long does a custom PD Reserve take?
A custom PD Reserve is made to order by Performance Designs. The current production time is 14-18 weeks. We confirm the expected timing when reviewing the order.
What does clearance stock mean?
Clearance stock is still new PD stock, but it has usually been sitting on the shelf longer - often more than 6 months - so it gets a discount. Check the size, colour, location, and DOM before ordering.
What maintenance or service-life questions should I ask?
A reserve should be inspected, assembled into your container, and packed by an approved rigger. Repack rules depend on country and federation: under FAA rules the cycle is 180 days, while some federations allow up to 1 year. Always follow the current PD manual and your local rules.
