The JYRO Crossfire 3 is the modern continuation of one of skydiving’s most iconic sport canopies. It is a fully elliptical 9-cell wing built for jumpers who want more speed, longer recovery, sharper handling and serious landing performance without jumping straight into a crossbraced canopy.
JYRO did not simply polish the Crossfire 2 and call it done. The Crossfire 3 was redesigned from the ground up using modern 3D CAD tools, CFD testing and lessons learned from Petra, Leia and Safire development. The result is a canopy that keeps the Crossfire personality — smooth openings, everyday practicality and fun flight — while adding a more efficient planform and a more powerful performance range.
Who it is for
- Confident intermediate jumpers stepping up from a square or semi-elliptical sport canopy at conservative wing loadings.
- Experienced elliptical pilots who want a fast, fun non-crossbraced wing.
- Team flyers, camera flyers and everyday jumpers who want performance without giving up practical openings.
- Pilots working toward more advanced canopy flight with coaching and disciplined progression.
Flight character
The Crossfire 3 is known for excellent openings. The fully formed nose and refined shape deliver soft, consistent deployments without turning the opening into a guessing game. Once flying, it feels connected and eager: toggles provide clear feedback, harness input is responsive, and rear risers offer plenty of glide for long spots or powerful landings.
The biggest change from previous generations is the dive and recovery. A slightly steeper, 3D-designed trim gives the Crossfire 3 a longer recovery arc and more ability to translate vertical speed into fast, enjoyable landings. Front risers feel lighter but precise, and the wing rewards accurate inputs from pilots who know what they are asking for.
Design features
- 3D CAD shaping creates accurate panels, smoother surfaces and better aerodynamic efficiency.
- CFD-tested planform improves understanding of turbulence behaviour and recovery.
- ZigZag design accounts for in-flight distortion and spreads load through the fabric.
- Optimised elliptical planform reduces induced drag while keeping the canopy in the Crossfire class.
- Powerband leading edge improves nose control and reduces parasitic drag.
- Updated rib, crossport, end-cell and stabiliser shaping tidy the wing and improve efficiency.
Suitability note
This is a high-performance fully elliptical canopy. It is not a first canopy for new jumpers. JYRO’s source guidance recommends significant experience before moving to a Crossfire 3, especially at higher wing loadings. Confirm your experience, size choice and transition plan with a qualified canopy coach.
Progression notes
The Crossfire 3 is exciting because it has range: loaded lightly, it can be a first or second fully elliptical wing for a well-coached intermediate jumper; loaded higher, it becomes a much more serious machine for pilots already comfortable with small elliptical canopies. That range is useful, but it also means the same model can feel very different depending on size and exit weight.
Compared with a Safire-style canopy, expect a different sight picture, more dive, more roll response and a longer recovery arc. The reward is speed, swoop distance and that connected “sports car” feeling. The responsibility is currency, coaching and disciplined landing choices.
Pack volume and ordering notes
JYRO’s pack-volume data is guidance gathered from the field. Before changing size or model, check the canopy/container combination with a rigger. If you are upgrading from Crossfire 2, Safire or another elliptical, choose the size around your current skill and coaching plan rather than the smallest number that looks exciting on paper.
Before you order
Canopy descriptions are useful, but they do not replace a real suitability check. Your exit weight, currency, landing area, container compatibility, previous canopy history and coaching plan all matter. If you are between sizes or moving into a new performance class, get confirmation from a qualified canopy coach or rigger before placing the order. That keeps the purchase aligned with how you actually fly, not just how good the spec sheet looks.
